Playoff Issues

Playoff Issues

I have removed Zeedood’s thread about the Auto League playoffs because it was getting nasty for everyone. As someone pointed out, anyone is allowed to be upset and anyone is allowed to leave PennantChase. I will never have a problem with that. I learned long ago it’s impossible to please everyone.

I also personally apologize for anything I said that may have sounded umempathetic. I get that this change disrupted some teams.

I also want to note:

1) I never make changes just for the hell of it. I make calculated changes that a majority of users ask for and that I deem are the best for the site as a whole.

2) I’ve already acknowledged the playoffs need another tweak. The format will change again to align with better reseeding.

Re: Playoff Issues

Not sure I understand the argument here. Do we want as much MLB realism as we can get in a sim which is what Gbacci has currently changed it to? I see other threads arguing almost exclusively for realism but this subject seems to be the one where if it does not benefit me then its just wrong. This is the exact format as the MLB uses or should we just eliminate all playoffs and have the regular season champs become the league champions?
Why reseed the playoffs? So the 120 win team can have more of an advantage....you know besides the fact they have a team good enough to win 120 games?

It's baseball and crazy things happen in baseball. If you watch your favorite team play every game of every season then you will see on numerous occasions something you have never seen before in a baseball game.

Well the same thing happens in the playoffs ALOT. Without looking it up I would argue that MOST of the time the team with the best regular season win total does not win the championship. At least in since the playoffs have extended.

The first year of any wildcard format was in 1995 (Was supposed to be 94 but the strike knocked it out. The new 2 team wildcard was put in place in 2012. So in 24 seasons of having a wildcard system 7 years the World Series was won by a WC team!!! Including last years champ the Nationals (Braves won the division). The Nats had the 3rd best record in the NL but they still had to play and win the 1 game playoff with the Brewers. The Nats then went on and knocked out the best record Dodgers. The Angels/Giants in 2002 and the Giants/Royals in 2014 World Series were BOTH WC teams!!! So my point is that it happens. Sometimes the team with the best record has to play a really good wildcard team with a really good record. It just works out that way.

I have not won anything here and I am still considered a "newbie" I'm sure whos opinion does not matter but I would rather have as close to baseball realism as I can get with my sim experience and I for one think that you made the right call Gbacci.

Re: Re: Playoff Issues

Bubbles,

Please just let sleeping dogs lie. I don't know you at all. You might be a great guy but you have trouble coming across like one a lot of the times here.

The discussion was removed for a reason; you were a good part of that reason.

Re: Playoff Issues

Bubbles,

If the site needs defending, Guy is both quite articulate and capable of providing it.

As for context: Your 'attack' was uncalled for. You barged into the thread and were both sarcastic and personal in your confrontation. That is all the context that was needed.

That is the gist of my message. That's all I will say on the subject. I hope you take it in the manner it is intended.

Re: Playoff Issues

No offense, Zeedood, please don't take this the wrong way, but going and saying something like that isn't helping to resolve this either...

Re: Re: Playoff Issues

Could we get Zeedood banned from posting messages at least?Getting old, and he can’t seem to stop.

Re: Playoff Issues

i'm sure they're both solid guys. not sure why it's necessary to be confrontational in a majority of posts.

guessing we'd get along fine in person with baseball as our common denominator.

Re: Re: Playoff Issues

LOL, And my comment goy pulled from this post? Chuck Norris in the house.

Re: Playoff Issues

Jim I deleted that entire thread not just your post.

Re: Re: Playoff Issues

Apologies. I just see all these silly comments and I had one in the middle of this mess above calling for a cease fire and that one is missing. It was right above the like comment about 5 above.
I am just so astounded that an entertainment site that is basically free, winds up with folks so angry with each other. Even if we disagree, who cares? Its flabbergasting.
Its not like we are talking about Mantle vs Mays............

Re: Playoff Issues

Its not like we are talking about Mantle vs Mays............

Don't get me started!!!!!! LOL

Re: Playoff Issues

...or stirrups vs. not

Re: Re: Playoff Issues

Ok Dempsey, now thats funny. For 5 minutes I am thinking, "Is this guy a rancher?" What does this have to do with riding horses?"
Then finally it hits me....oh, socks. LOl, No stirrups for me. I can't believe it took me that long to figure that out.

Re: Playoff Issues

Jim,

Guess I'm a bit older than you...and yes, always played with stirrups and still love seeing them on the field every game.

Not only does the other look seem a bit sloppy, it just gives the opponent more 'loose' material to make that tag. As a former coach, that bothers me too.

Re: Re: Playoff Issues

I am 56 and did like the stirrups, but moved over to the other side. It happens, lol.

Re: Playoff Issues

OMG, we are talking about a computer game meant for fun here! Threatening and insulting others is definitely not cool. With the world dealing with true life & death issues because of COVID-19, we do not need it here! It is a game I truly enjoy, even more so, being home 99% of my day. We are the "owners" of a computer-simulated team, nothing more!

Re: Re: Playoff Issues

Yea, but stirrups or long pants?

Re: Playoff Issues

Oh yeah and since you bought it up, Mays any day of the week.

The closest I've seen to Mays was Junior.

The closest I've seen to Trout was Mantle.

Re: Playoff Issues

"Closest I've seen to Trout was Mantle" ... ?

Umm might wanna rethink that statement just a smidge lol

But as long as I have the right idea on what you mean, then yes that sounds about right

Edit!!! I mean the second part is correct not the first! Mantle was somewhat injury prone here and there which took away from his value considerably... Mays absolutely deserves his HoF place as one of the all time greats on and off the field but Mantle is still higher on my list (although, I may be a bit biased, any guesses why? Haha)

Re: Re: Playoff Issues

Actually it is exactly what I meant. Trout is the player Mantle might have become if he could have stayed away the booze and a certain sprinkler head.

For a pure physically superior player, Trout is the best IMO. Mantle a could've/should've been.

For a charismatic 'poetry in motion player, it's Mays with Junior a solid shadow in the background

Re: Playoff Issues

Gotta say, the parts you mentioned regarding Mantle and Trout do make perfect sense... I still think Mantle was better than Mays in a lot of ways though haha

Re: Re: Playoff Issues

I agree the best 2 players I have seen in my adult years are Trout and Jr. I have seen Trout at Fenway and the Trop and he just looks awesome standing still. Then when he actually performs...If he was in NY or Boston he would get even more credit.
When I was a kid about 12 or 13 I saw Mantle hit a HR in Old Yankee Stadium, before the remodel when they played at Shea, during an Old Timers Game. Pretty awesome.
