pinch hitting

pinch hitting

I'm confused about a situation that just unfolded in one of my games. I had Brantley (.327/.387) due up at the plate. He was pulled for a pinch hitter Crawford (.307/.359). I was under the impression that a player would only be pinch hit for by players with better batting stats the original player. Is that not the case?

Re: pinch hitting

The SIM will also pinch hit to get a Left handed hitter versus a righty or righty versus lefty - that’s probably what happened - it probably shouldn’t there though, the lesser average probably negates the opposite hitter edge, but I think it does.

Re: Re: pinch hitting

I thought of that but both hitters are left handed so that doesn't explain it.

Re: pinch hitting

If you have Brantley set to be PH for, and you have Crawford set to be a PH, it’s going to follow your lead unless they aren’t close. Crawford is faster, and that seems like enough for PC to assume that’s what you wanted. PC will follow your settings and I think it only wouldn’t if their rankings were way off or the PH had no stat greater.

The bigger question might be why is Brantley set to be PH for, or why is Crawford set to PH, as your lineup all looks better than him.

And the answer might be that it was set like that from the previous owner. One thing I don’t like is that when you get a player that was on another team, it keeps their settings. I’ve been burned a few times with bunting and PH because I forget to check settings of someone I traded for or picked up later.

Re: Re: pinch hitting

Yeah, I wondered about why the settings were always different with each new team. I just figured they would reset to all OFF.

Re: pinch hitting

Yeah it’s a tricky situation because let’s say you scooped up a fast runner, the opposite could happen where you get burned because he was set to OFF for stealing or whatever and you were expecting him to be on. I guess the point is the argument could easily be made the other way as well, why isn’t everyone just turned on.
