Can anyone explain this??

Can anyone explain this??

https://www.pennantchase.com/lgBoxS..
in the game above Mike Willis entered the game as a reliever in the 6th inning, he could not possibly have been the Long Reliever because a Long reliever won't enter the game after the 5th inning unless all other relief pitchers are tired, and so can't be set to pitch past his stamina

He stayed in after he was tired - getting out 2 Left handed batters before giving way to a rested reliever. How does this happen? he showed as tired, he should have been pulled once he hit his limit

Re: Can anyone explain this??

Is he set to pitch past his pitch count?

Re: Can anyone explain this??

Good question. He pitched to two extra batters, so he has to be set to pitch past pitch count. But for a reliever, that is only an option if he’s set as long reliever, and if he was, he’d have come in the 5th when starter was done. So, good question, how can he be set to go past pitch count if he’s not on the long RP slot.

Re: Re: Can anyone explain this??

Exactly, yankeebb- it should not have happened - in fact I have NEVER seen it happen before and plenty of times had wished my better reliever faced just one more guy instead of going to the weak link that was all I had left, but he is tired, he gets pulled.

It's almost like the SIM ignored the rules and it opens Pandora's box, when does this occur? It's tough enough not actually being able to manage a game without knowing whether tired guys are getting pulled when they are supposed to or getting extended for some reason.

Re: Can anyone explain this??

I have thought a lot about this and not because I lost, that's meaningless, its the fact that it even happened and what might have caused it.

Perhaps's that RP was "On Fire" and it also added 20% to his stamina?

It would account for the extra pitches, but I have NEVER seen it happen to a SP, in fact I have read plenty of Highlights saying a SP was On Fire, but still got pulled at the end of their stamina, so was a change made?

Re: Can anyone explain this??

Could it have something to do with the fact that the Chiefs have only 3 regular RPs? Looks like one of them was tired, and the other one came in before Willis. So maybe he gets some extra pitches before the SIM gives up on him and brings in someone who it normally wouldn’t? Not sure.

Re: Re: Can anyone explain this??

Just bumping this to see if there was ever a resolution, just curious if guys pitching past their stamina, which were not set to, when there are non tired relievers available, it was very strange.

Re: Can anyone explain this??

It doesn't look like Willis has been on slump buster this season.

I'm new, so it helps me to talk through it...

Do you know for sure there were non-tired relievers available?

This was game 2/4 on that calendar day - what time of day does the second game happen? (Chance owner didn't update bullpen after previous game.)

The three games leading up to this one... and then this game, here are the relievers used... which makes me think the minors/majors hadn't been swapped.

Johnson
Rotblatt, Willis, Comstock, Davis
Johnson
Comstock, Willis, Rotblatt --- game in question

Willis came in during the bottom of the 6th with 2 outs. Without knowing the roster at the time, I would expect Rotblatt and Davis to still be available at that time....

Willis got the out in the bottom of the 6th. He gets three outs in the bottom of the 7th. In the 8th (down two runs) he gets the 3 outs.

Then the bottom of the 9th starts and his team is tied. He's most certainly past his pitch count here... he gets two outs and then is pulled for Rotblatt, who gets the last out.

Rottblatt's team scores in the top of the 10th, so now the game needs closed out in the 10th. Rotblatt continues and gets the 3 outs in the 10th.

I would think Davis was still available at this point? But does the sim have different decisions in a tie game? Or was he out for two games after his last appearance?

I don't understand the decision making on a tired bullpen or when you're burning through a bullpen... at some point it will use tired guys (I'm guessing?) but perhaps the math is changed on when to pull pitchers? Especially in a tie game?

Re: Re: Can anyone explain this??

As for non tired relievers, there were for sure at least 3, so the tired guy should have been pulled according to PC settings.

Re: Can anyone explain this??

Who were the 3, Sin? I think one was set as Closer, one was set as Set-Up man, one was tired, and one was already used previously in that game. And that was it for relievers I think. Still doesn’t explain why he went over his limit though, unless it’s built into the SIM to not use those guys in other situations unless absolutely necessary.

Re: Re: Can anyone explain this??

Whatever pitchers are on your roster whether they SP or RP they are not supposed to pitch past their stamina unless they are a SP or the long reliever, they are not supposed to pitch their stamina.

plus the game just prior, their starter went 8 innings in a 1-0 Win,
regardless, what happened shouldn't have

Re: Can anyone explain this??

There was another RP avail and he came in next. The SU and CL would have followed if the game continued. The only thing that would explain him pitching to two extra batters would be if he was in long RP spot and set to go past pitch count, but if he was he’d have come in the 5th when starter left. So it doesn’t make sense and really needs Guy to investigate.

Re: Can anyone explain this??

I spent time looking at this last night until I literally couldn’t stay awake anymore and I’m still baffled. I want to spend a bit more time and watch the replay and count up the pitch totals. I don’t see anything in the code that would cause this. The setup guy was next up and he did eventually come in. Even if the pitcher was on fire I don’t see anything in the code that keeps him in.

Re: Re: Can anyone explain this??

Rise of the machines?? Maybe you made the SIM too smart, and it's starting to think for itself? Just throwing out possibilities. lol

Re: Can anyone explain this??

Perhaps this is just another of Gus's dirty tricks designed to keep me down, LOL

Re: Re: Can anyone explain this??

Well my head hurts after looking at this more. I just can't find anything. It's really odd that 53 was the magic number. Even if this player was somehow using the wrong season (1977) that would be a stamina of 46, and he should have been pulled after the first batter in the 9th. And even if he was set to go past pitch count, he would have gone even longer than he did. Nothing raises stamina - on fire, or slump bust or anything like that.

If anyone sees it again let me know.

Re: Can anyone explain this??

I'm not saying that I used my Jedi powers to alter the nature of the SIM .... ..... .... but I'm not saying I didn't, either.
