Possible change to the 8 hour cycle

Possible change to the 8 hour cycle

Any thoughts on reducing this to 6 hours (or less)? Even a reduction to 6 hours would shorten a 162 game season by 13 days. It would have little to no impact on drafting.

Re: Possible change to the 8 hour cycle

I think this is a great idea. I'm terrible at delaying gratification.

Re: Re: Possible change to the 8 hour c

Patience is a virtue. Does anyone else think that this will ultimately lead to the downfall of society as we know it? We already have PC addicts forsaking their responsibilities in the areas of family, work, volunteerism, and personal hygiene. This will only exacerbate the problem. Now we’ll have even more guys skipping meals, not sleeping or showering, calling in sick to work, checking league results while driving or sitting on the toilet or having their very last anniversary dinner with their soon-to-be ex.

Take the extra few hours between games and learn to read, or go for a walk with your extremely overweight dog whose leash is in a corner somewhere covered up with layers of dust, or say hello to your kid who has forgotten that you’re his dad and has taken to referring to you as “that guy who lives in the basement”.

Just my mid-morning thoughts on this. Sort of kidding, but not really.
🤣😂🤣

Re: Possible change to the 8 hour c

And I've seen you tell OTHER people their posts were condescending.

Re: Possible change to the 8 hour c

Gus,

Not sure whom you think you are talking to here. You know absolutely nothing about me. I find your presumptions pretty obnoxious.

As for my idea, it is what is. Deal with it!

Re: Re: Possible change to the 8 hour c

I get the ask, I do... sometimes I get anxious for my next game.

There are a few issues. 1) there needs to be enough time between games to allow all leagues to sim... 2) and, even if users started simming while the "auto sim" was chugging through all leagues, there is a limit to how much simming can happen on the servers at once. So spreading things out generally keeps the server happier.

I will keep this top of mind to keep thinking of ways to shorten it (although I know some people like the cadence).

Re: Re: Possible change to the 8 hour c

I think you are taking Gus's post a little too personally Dempsey, the way I read it is that there are so many more important things in life that we should spend our time on.

PC is a pleasant diversion, but too much of almost anything is a bad thing - While I am sure 6 hour intervals work for some people, it would not work for all and that's why they are only in Custom Leagues -

I'm Not saying what is right or wrong, but Gus had some valid points - spending more time with your kids if you have them, or paying more attention to your spouse and not being distracted by a game and its not even an in person game with interaction with real life people, being a better person, winning isn't everything.

I made a regretful decision recently and wish this post had come out sooner, it might have made me not make that error in judgement, I won't make a mistake like that again, I have to be better than that.

Some things mean and are more important and getting your priorities in order MATTER - I can personally say I got something out of his response.

Re: Possible change to the 8 hour c

I find it amusing that some of the 'old guard' get carte blanche with incendiary posts. Apologists just jump right in many times.

His post was personal in an odd manner since again, he has know clue how poorly aimed his points were.

Re: Re: Possible change to the 8 hour c

Guys, guys, guys. Those who know me at all on this site will know that if there's a way to put a humorous spin on a post, I'll be all over that. I don't take very much seriously unless I absolutely have to.

You're right Dempsey. I don't know you at all (other than that you seem to be a great competitor, very good at PC, and I think you're about to kick my butt in an autoleague WS we're in together, for the 2nd or maybe even 3rd time - not sure). Truth is, it wouldn't have mattered at all to me who the original poster was, irrelevant. I saw an opportunity to make light of our common love of PC (more of an addiction to some, that part is true - often the best humor has an element of truth in it). And also, the best humor is often self-deprecating, and I was definitely poking fun at myself along with all the rest of you crazy characters.

So, to sum up - not condescending, not pointed, not incendiary, not slamming, at all. 100 per cent humorous take on something that I saw as funny (although as SCM noted, there are actually a few things to think about in there for all of us).

I'll still be looking for the humor in everything. I highly recommend it to everyone, especially during this crazy time. It's one of the only things that keeps any of us sane.

Gus

Re: Re: Possible change to the 8 hour c

Confusing flamboyance and a humorist slant for condescension is a mistake. Gus is highlighting a conversation every long-time PC'er has with him or herself, at some point.

That conversation is: When is this hobby too much?

Shortening sim times, in my opinion, will have a chilling effect, causing participation to decline. Keeping up with leagues will become more difficult. More FA drafts, more supplementals, more ranking, more, more, more.

More is not always better.

If some leagues could be on six hours and some on eight, that would be interesting, but I'd only play the 8-hour ones.

Re: Possible change to the 8 hour c

Gus,

Let's get back to our playoff rivalries. Those challenges are much more interesting.

Re: Possible change to the 8 hour c

I know I spend too much time here ... and my teams still stink. =

It's like I've learned nothing about PC in 4 months except how to not win. (0-2 in WS matchups.)

Hey wait a minute! That describes me! 🤠🤠🤠
