Anyone else ever do better with him?

Anyone else ever do better with him?

1998 David Wells, Favorite Teams peague Yankees build:

I've definitely never had 20 wins with him before lol. Figured I'd ask you guys if you've done better since 1998 is a fairly common choice in fav teams leagues for NYY

Re: Anyone else ever do better with him

Looked at his numbers and I think the offense helped him a lot. Th 20 wins with him is impressive. The games he started though 18 of the wins the Yanks got they scored 6 or more runs and they scored 5 in several more.
His whip was 1.25 and 8.6 h/9 were a little high so I looked at the game log and got a look at all the run support. It may be a high end win total for him but those other stats may be right on.

Re: Anyone else ever do better with him

Good point. I know the offense had a big part in all that but I never really looked into how BIG a part they played

Re: Anyone else ever do better with him

Here's another example of massive run support being such a big factor in an otherwise lower tier pitcher's success:

Re: Re: Anyone else ever do better with

Thanks for the analyses, guys...I'm learning!

Re: Anyone else ever do better with

you have to remember that the entire system is messed up though, if a pitchers H/9 are 7.5 that includes whatever defensive help he got from his fielders - when you add DWar you are subtracting hits from a player who already has the benefits of any DWar plays that occurred during the season his stats are based on.

So if you had a pitcher with -for arguments sake with these defensive players in real Life =Ozzie Smith, Scott Rolen, Dustin Pedroia, Griffey Jr. Ichiro, and Andruw Jones - THEY already contributed their number of saved hits, now if you can sign and pair them with your SP you get it AGAIN- It's the reason no one ever hits close to their average, all this talk about - facing top pitchers - well they are facing top hitters - that's a PUSH - It's the added defense that screws things up in my honest opinion

Re: Re: Anyone else ever do better with

Very interesting analysis. I agree with the theory of the math of H/9 then the boost of dwar to that. Some pitchers though didnt get good dwar. But I get its like double dipping.
It has been my experience though, that the pitchers here usually dont match their historic H/9. A lot of times I lead a league in team ERA and I look and my lowest H/9 is 7.8+.
Strange game. But I love it.

Re: Anyone else ever do better with

I love it as well, but really wish the running game was more of a factor

Re: Anyone else ever do better with

Pitchers don't hit their averages due to Slump Buster and Big Advantage Parks, there really is no need for Slump Buster, just the normal coding of replicating REAL stats should drive stats to somewhere close to their actual levels, many times on Slump Buster a guy will walk twice in a game, and of course score shortly afterwards- It's forced offense and WAY too powerful for a Hitter to get 30 days or 90 Games in Slump Buster, its just too powerful for too long

Re: Re: Anyone else ever do better with

“No one hits close to their average” are you saying this is why players don’t hit close to their real-stats? Because if that’s what you’re saying, none of those factors you mention really have much to do with that.

The math is not that hard. If you have a hitter who got on base at a .400 clip and a pitcher who allowed hitters on base at a .200 clip and they face each other 500 times, BOTH players get worse. The hitter drops 100 points on average and the pitcher rises 100 points on average such that now their numbers are each .300 instead of .400 and .200.

Yes the whole double dipping thing is real on the margins. But has very little to do with why players on PC don’t match their real life stats.

In the league above one of my RP Mike Nakamura got injured for 12 or on game 36 no days off, he has pitched twice while injured, how can that happen?

I know that Pitchers needing multiple days rest are not listed as injured, but Nakamura is on the Injured List

I am the Roadrunners

Re: Re: Anyone else ever do better with

Its funny. The one thing I have learned here is under most circumstances is not to expect players to hit their historic stats. And thats ok. If it wasnt for PC I wouldnt need a laptop. lol.

Re: Re: Anyone else ever do better with

I think it's been brought up before that injured RPs will come in just like as if they were tired RPs, if needed. And since that team has just 4 healthy RPs it's going to happen.

Re: Anyone else ever do better with

I agree YankeeBB but that was only in auto Leagues -

Re: Re: Anyone else ever do better with

I don't think that's ever been an "only auto leagues" thing, but others can correct me if they think that's wrong.

Re: Anyone else ever do better with

but the player is injured for 13 games, he still needs to miss 8 more how can he pitch?
