Who's your most unlikely award winner?

Who's your most unlikely award winner?

I realized that if you click a player's name in your trophy case you can see all the MVP or CY awards he's won across all leagues (looks like it goes back to 2020). Apparently I'm the only person to have won a Cy Young Award with Art Fromme or Todd Worrell. Who are your most unlikely MVP or Cy Young winners?

Re: Who's your most unlikely award winn

MVP - Jay Porter; CY - Doug Bair

Re: Re: Who's your most unlikely award

I didn't realize you could click on them and see all of the awards they've won. I took a look and apparently I'm the only one to win a Cy Young with Jim Hearn or Bert Blyleven.

Re: Who's your most unlikely award

Lee Smith - Cy Young - Best of the 80s League.

Re: Who's your most unlikely award winn

Tom Griffin, Cy Young, random players league

Re: Re: Who's your most unlikely award

I actually had Carlos Zambrano winning the Cy Young twice, in the best of the 2000's, (2000-2009).

He doesn't really have stats line close to match Randy Johnson, Clemens, Pedro, Harden, King Felix, Lincecum, Peavy, Schmidt, but he did pull 2 miracle season...

He won couple's best of single season 2005,2007 etc...

But I actually am the only one to be able to have him win in best of decades...

Re: Who's your most unlikely award

Tom Haller - MVP in Random
Orlando Cepeda - MVP in Random
Larry Jackson - CY in Random
Larry Hisle - MVP in Favorite Teams
Fritz Peterson - CY in Mid Century

Re: Who's your most unlikely award winn

Didnt think I had one at first, but I checked it anyway, and apparently I actually did have one after all

Dellin Betances in 1970-present

Which is even more surprising to me, given that he's a RP, not a SP...

Re: Re: Who's your most unlikely award

Bob Lemon- SP Random Players

I have a total of 26 ( 10 MVP 16 Cy's ) but I can only get 17 to show up even clicking the " Show all awards"

Re: Who's your most unlikely award

He didn't win it, but I had Sergio Mitre come in 3rd in the Cy Young in a custom league using 2010 rosters and stats. If you don't remember him, he was a journeyman long reliever with a career WAR of -0.1. His only distinction is that he was arguably the worst human being ever to play major league baseball (warning - don't google it).

Re: Re: Who's your most unlikely award

Got a Cy Young in Best of 80's with Mike Krukow...that one came out of nowhere.

Re: Who's your most unlikely award winn

A couple in some single-season leagues, but in the larger selection of leagues, definitely Howie Camnitz as Cy Young in Deadball and surprisingly Al Rosen as MVP in Mid-Century.

Re: Re: Who's your most unlikely award

Luis DeLeon, who had 17 career victories and 32 career saves, picked up a Cy Young Award in a Favorite Teams league for me.

Re: Who's your most unlikely award winn

I claimed Larry Gura as a free agent and he won the Cy.

Re: Re: Who's your most unlikely award

His era is over 10 for me, I had to drop the schmuck like a used condom.

Re: Who's your most unlikely award

Great Thread! Love all these posts. Now I have to look up the few I have!

Re: Re: Who's your most unlikely award

I don't know how unlikely it is, but I just had Cy Young will the Cy Young in a Deadball League !!

Re: Who's your most unlikely award

My most unlikely award wasn't the player who won but in how I got the player.

So on my original account back around 2016 the meta team in fav teams was SF Usually something like 1888 1954 2002 and the 4th was spread around a couple of different years. Back then only the Yankees were limited to 3 so SF and CHC were dominant

Well 1954 was one of the SF teams for Dusty Rhodes the 2016 version of 2022 Matt Carpenter

I had made a fav team of if I remember correctly 1936 1957 and 1978 Yankees not really expecting anything cause there were at least 2 SF teams in the league.

Comes time for the supplemental draft and I am picking 6th or 7th but I see one of the SF owners had for some reason left Dusty Rhodes off their team so I made him my number 1 choice not thinking for one minute I would get him picking 6th or whatever. Imagine my surprise when I see I drafted him I slotted him in between DiMaggio and Mantle and he went on to win the MVP and that was the only title I won in a Fav teams with the Yankees back then

Re: Who's your most unlikely award winn

Unfortunately awards won by Dusty Rhodes usually go under the radar outside fav teams leagues due to the records not being kept for those leagues (other than you getting the award on your profile page, of course). I'd guess that Dusty has actually won quite a few MVPs in those leagues, especially back before SF was limited to 3 years. But what's actually interesting is that I saw a similar scenario to what you're describing in a fav teams league I was in not too long ago. But I can't remember if it was you or someone else I saw that time...
