Rest day not counted

Rest day not counted

Just had an interesting one where Joe Mauer needed rest in 2 days time, so I switched him to DH, and he played DH for 8 innings, but then the catcher was pinch-hit for and Mauer caught the 9th inning. When I checked my team page, it shows Mauer needing rest in 1 day, meaning that he wasn’t credited with a rest day because he caught the 9th? Is that right? Does anyone else think that’s weird? Maybe Guy can explain or maybe even change the code to allow for that rest day to be granted in future situations like this. Thoughts?

Re: Rest day not counted

I've had this happen to me too. I'm not sure what it's supposed to do in this situation but now when I want to rest a player, I usually go into the settings and make sure they are not set to be able to sub into the game. That takes care of it.

Re: Rest day not counted

I was. Just Going to ask about this. Same thing you rest a player but he pinch hits. That nullifies the attempted rest day? I guess so.

Re: Rest day not counted

There might be another way but the only way that I have figured out to block a player from getting into the game is to put him in the minors for the game.

Re: Re: Rest day not counted

[duncan] Good idea. I’m pretty constant about resting. Same thing happens to me. Never thought of doing this.

Re: Rest day not counted

As was said above, you need to check "not allow" for pinch hitting and sub in. As a safety valve. Because yes, a PH or a defensive sub counts as a game played.
When that happens a players name is entered into the official box score and counts as a game played in the overall stats as well.
That's how it works in PC world anyhow.

Re: Re: Rest day not counted

I found this post interesting because if you had a player with 5 EN you would need to bench or DH him every 6th game or his stats take a negative hit.

But, I have always found that if I bench a guy and he ends up entering the game as a PH or LGDS it still counted as a day of rest.

I do remember my Starting catcher, who had like 10 EN, needing rest, backup started, got hurt in the 2nd inning for 9 games, tired guy came in and didn't get a days rest, fair, he played 7 innings.

maybe when a guy enters matters?

Re: Rest day not counted

If you use don’t allow pinch hit/ pinch run that would alleviate the problem but then you deprive yourself of having the mgr. putting in a good hitter to go against a pitcher using R/l matchup. Or putting in a 9 runner for a replaceable player.

Re: Rest day not counted

It may be if the player actually enters the field on defense. I’d have to look at the logic. I know in the past this has been a point of contention with arguments on both sides. I think we had to change it because some people were abusing the system by subbing someone in early while still getting the benefit of the day off.

Re: Re: Rest day not counted

I thought you couldn’t sub anyone in until the 7th or 8th inning and the manager has no control of it besides deciding who can possibly PH or sun in defensively- there is no - leave early designation for position players

Re: Rest day not counted

Yeah that's true, but I think people had issues even with doing it in the 7th and/or the injury issue mentioned above.

Re: Rest day not counted

I found the section dealing with pinch hitting/ running.
You can turn it off just by pushing the No button.
There is no reason to send player to minors.
Thanks!
