How does this happen ?
Todays game LA vs SD bottom of the 5th la has man on 1st , batter hits a ground ball to ss throw to 2nd then the throw to 1st go's over 1st into foul territory and dodgers 1st base coach picks it up and throws back to the pitcher. Isn't the ball still in play ?
Re: How does this happen ?
Unless it hit something out of play before bouncing back to him.
Re: How does this happen ?
In the situation described, that's Coach' interference, so the runner is out.

Prior to the coach interfering, the ball was still in play, unless it hit something else out of play, as Jim said.
Re: Re: How does this happen ?
The ball didnt hit anything and the batter was safe.
Re: How does this happen ?
I would have to see the replay. Ball had to hit something just above the railing. The net maybe or a piece of equipment. Someone would have called it out from the opposing team if it was still a live ball one would think.
Re: Re: How does this happen ?
I saw the play that was referenced. The ball was basically dead/had almost stopped rolling and the fielders were standing right there to pick it up. The base coach beat them to it. The umpires didn't call interference because it obviously didn't affect anything. Technically, Mr. Bubbles is correct that it was a live ball.
Re: How does this happen ?
Add to the fact that it was from his own player , as we saw last night , you can lose a game by giving up free bases and outs. Padres just seem to have that " it " factor this postseason.
Re: Re: How does this happen ?
And then the Dodgers crush them - funny how everyone forgets about the team with the best record in baseball. Back to the Ravine........
