Contracts by stats vs. ranking

Contracts by stats vs. ranking

Sorry if I've missed this elsewhere, but in league settings, you can select to have contracts based on "real" stats or player rankings. When you go with player rankings option, contracts for players are more than double the other way. Why the difference, and why go one way as opposed to the other? Thanks.

Re: Contracts by stats vs. ranking

My understanding is that, when starting a league, there isn't any definitive reason to go with contracts based on one over the other (Rank v. Real Stats).

I think going with Rank-based contracts makes guessing a player's asking price a little easier, meaning a 95 Rank player will ask for more salary than a 75 Rank player. Whereas, contracts based on Real Stats are harder to compare and contrast across the player pool.

When Rank was implemented a couple years ago, the Real Stats option was kept because all the Custom Leagues had set the max budgets for each team according to the contracts that calculate for Real Stats, and, instead of forcing leagues to dramatically raise their budgets, gbacci kept the Real Stats option available.

Why are contracts so much higher for Rank? I think that's what the code spit out when Rank was implemented, and figuring out why may have been too much of a headache for the lone wolf coder.

Please remember, all of this may be wrong. If it is, I guarantee a full refund of my fee.

Re: Contracts by stats vs. ranking

Real stats contracts were flawed. Players with low AB and IP and so less counting stats cost less, even if they were far better. Rank eliminated that but people complained contracts were too high. So, you pick one or the other.
