Injury question
I figure that Games played must be a factor in determining whether a player gets injuries or not - more games played should reduce your odds of being unavailable.
That being said, why is it that some guys seem to get injured far more frequently than others, even ones with LESS games played, and multiple injuries to the same player while others, who should be more likely to get hurt don't - I don't get it, and it's not that I am anti-injury, I'm not, just trying to ascertain why some guys constantly get hurt and others -with stats that would seem to make them more susceptible don't get hurt
I kinda think that if you get HBP you should have 15-20 Percent chance of missing the rest of the current game at the least
Re: Injury question
No response on this? the answer may be that " It's totally random" But its not though, certain players constantly get injured - when others, who by using strictly Games Played - almost never get injured
Re: Re: Injury question
This seems to happen often with injuries, they come in clusters sometimes, and people ask if the injury logic is broken, but the data never really backs up the concerns. It's random, and EN determines the chances. If you're seeing a case where the same guy gets injured, I'd have to look at the specific data and case of that example.
If you're seeing guys with high EN don't get injured, then that's true. That's the point of EN. (It's based on Games Played.) Lower EN guys are going to get injured over and over. It's the same with the basketball game, if you're trying to sandbag with a guy who didn't play many games, you're risking that he'll get injured often.
Re: Injury question
I considered endurance as a factor in my logic, but then figured that games played would be more important.
Leagues don't retain games injured so you can't really show history
The injuries coming in clumps, and I don't mean for 1 team, It seems 3-4 guys in any given League all get injured on the same day, a lot.

Laughter is the best medicine, according to Reader's Digest.
Re: Injury question
Yes- but it offers no insights at all into my inquiry so why say anything unless it is pertinent to the topic?
Besides s Guy's response, which in fairness really didn't answer the question, when it comes to your responses, I would prefer the "condensed" Readers Digest versions - lol
Re: Re: Injury question
Guy answered the question. You suspected GP was related to injuries and you were right. EN is directly based on GP. EN is then directly related to injury odds and length. So GP/EN/injuries all tie in together, which makes sense. There is no 'this guy is randomly set to keep getting hurt' even if it seems that way sometimes. Low EN has higher odds of getting hurt and for longer. High EN should get hurt less.
Re: Injury question
That was the Reader’s Digest version, sin. lol
I’ll pretend you didn’t tell me what you prefer I post about on the global boards - freedom of speech and all. Plus my little quip was absolutely pertinent to your question. Better to laugh about those injuries than to succumb to paranoia about how the sim is out to get some guys over others.
The randomness of it actually mimics real life, if you think about it. Why do some real players get injured all the time while other guys rarely miss a game? Maybe the broken sim has taken over the real world too. 😂
Re: Re: Injury question
I’m about to board a plane so I’m hoping I’ll have decent WiFi and be able to look into this more. What I’m seeing is a bit confusing honestly. I don’t see any problems with the code logic, but the data isn’t really backing up the logic.
Re: Injury question
Thanks Guy, I supplied what I could based on my personal experience, as I said, injuries are not tracked so I can only provide what I personally know, I want to reiterate that this is not a whine about injuries, but it certainly seems that there is something off on how the logic is applied.
Re: Re: Injury question
So when you see the number of players who get injured multiple times it is startling. And it really stands out when one team has one guy get hurt three times, and nobody else on the team gets hurt. So, I poured over the code and I could not find any flaw with the logic. My brain isn't big enough for this, so I punched all the data in a couple AI engines, and low and behold the results align with random chance. Based on the logic, the average league of 12 teams would have about 60 injuries per season, with 14 players being injured multiple times, on average. (Batters only, since pitchers are different I did not include them in this analysis.) That data aligns very closely to what happens on PC. So, I think the logic is working and is truly random, but the question would be, do people think those numbers are realistic? Is that a realistic number of players who get injured multiple times? if not, it's really just more of an algorithm tweak, but not something that is going wrong in the code.
Re: Injury question
Hey Gbacci , a lot of people wont believe this but isn't it true that the sim does not care about the players name, their names are only there as an identifier. The sim doesn't know that Lou Gehrig or CaL played in 2k straight games. The sim just goes by the numbers , and if a player gets injured multi times it's just the luck of the draw ,am I right ?
Re: Re: Injury question
the sim doesn't know who Babe Ruth even was, strictly based on stats.
Re: Injury question
Based solely on Byron Buxton who gets injured about 12 times a season, I’d say the algorithm is just fine, unlike Byron Buxton.
Re: Re: Injury question
I think the rate of injuries you described for batters is about right. The overall MLB rate would imply a slightly higher number, but that includes pitchers. Pitchers get injured more often. Since you limited the analysis to batters, the numbers you quoted seem spot-on.
Re: Injury question
I don’t suppose you want to get too accurate and include things like “season-ending injury”, “career-ending injury”, “died”.
Re: Re: Injury question
Now if you have Carl Mays on the mound...
Re: Injury question
Ahh yes, the tragic tale of Indians SS Ray Chapman, who died just 12 hours after being struck in the head by a Carl Mays pitch
Re: Injury question
Now if you have Carl Mays on the mound...
No problem on Pennant Chase Ray!
Re: Re: Injury question
@GBacci: When you ran your test, did you look just at injury rate or also at variance in time between injuries?
I've definitely noticed the same thing as described above. Will go 130 games with no injuries, then a guy gets injured for seven games, then immediately another guy, etc. It seems like the average rate is about right but also like they come in bunches.
Re: Injury question
I've had several lately where a player is injured, and then his replacement is injured !! Probably nothing, but Damn !!
