Daily drafts

Daily drafts

Playing now for several months...best success a 3rd. I think my problem is with the daily draft. I TRY TO PUT DOZENS OF TOP RANKED PLAYERS IN MY draft list but rarely end up with more than a couple of these players on my roster...My last effort involved 3 cy young winners from toronto but the highest rank was low 80's....any suggestions out there?

Re: Daily drafts

1) Have a plan. Whether it is to target SP early and have a great rotation, grab the best hitters that play key defensive positions, or just the highest rank available. Have an idea of the type of team you want, and what players best fit that team.

2) re-rank players after every round. Try to see what positions are being drafted and take advantage. If you want top RP, but no one is drafting them, maybe you can wait a few rounds before you grab your.

3) don’t rely entirely on rank for hitters. Hitter rank only uses AVG, OBP, and OPS. This means low AVG sluggers like McGwire are underrated. It also means great defenders like Ozzie Smith are super underrated, and fast guys like Rickey Henderson. Also, team fit is more important than any stat. Harmon Killebrew can be great in a big boost park, but worthless in a big disadvantage park.

Re: Daily drafts

I trust rank for pitchers. For hitters, it is more nuanced. Average and OBP are major factors determining rank for hitters, and a lot of times I would rather have a player who is lower ranked, but has more slugging. The lower rank is usually due to a lower average, but I will take the trade off. You also have to consider defense. DWar and fielding percentage matter.

Also, just because a pitcher won a cy young in real life, doesn’t mean he will be great in the sim.

I prefer to get three high ranked pitchers then go for hitters and mix in my fourth starter pretty quickly as well.

I get at least two very high rank relievers if possible.

I also do not usually set a closer. I order my relievers from best to worst.

Also , fiddle with your settings to see what works for you.

Hope this helps!

Re: Re: Daily drafts

for me. pitchers I look at H/9, K/9 and whip. era I dot really use unless its to break a tie.

Re: Daily drafts

If there's a tie, look at fire, wild pitches, or stamina or something. Don't look at ERA at all.

Re: Re: Daily drafts

Thankyou for the advice, I will try to use your good suggestions....My best times are naming my teams to show a Canadian slant and have fun.....Also If a draft round happens every 8 hrs , how do i get to the draft each round? I won't stop trying!

Again, here's a big Niagara Thank You for your Help.

Re: Daily drafts

On your “My league list” page there is a link that shows when the next round runs for all your active drafts. You can also go to the league’s homepage and it says when the next round runs.

Before each round runs, rank enough players for the round. That is, if you draft 5th in the round, rank 5 players. You can do this by clicking the “rank players” link or go to Free Agents and click a player you like and click “add player to rankings”. You really should do this for every round. Pay attention to what positions you need, who is left at those positions, and try your best to guess at who is likely to be taken in the next two rounds and who will still be available. Rank guys you want who you think will be gone by the time you get to pick again.

Re: Re: Daily drafts

I would suggest you rank at least two rounds ahead - so if you're picking 5, rank 17 players because you never know when you might forget to rank or not be able to make it to your phone or computer - happens all the time to me.

It's of course best if you can tailor your picks for that specific round, that way you won't end up with two picks at the same position by accident, but it's good to have some back up picks listed in case you miss a round, especially one of those early rounds!
