Closers

Closers

Haven’t used a closer much and am curious how this affects pulling a pitcher who’s having a great game—e.g. just had a SP pitching a 2-hit shutout through the 8th but was still pulled for the closer in the 9th.

Is it as simple as the closer, when rested, goes into EVERY save opportunity, or is there more to it than that?

Re: Closers

Mike,

I recommend asking Guy directly since he knows the software. Everyone else would be making assumptions.

Re: Closers

The answer is yes, if you set a closer they will ALWAYS come in at the appropriate time if they are rested.

Re: Re: Closers

Closer only doesn't come in when a no-hitter is in progress. Other than that, all scenarios.

Re: Closers

Interesting, thanks guys. Might be cool to see a bit more control over this in the future, a la the “closer in tie game” toggle; maybe a “closer comes into a SP’s shutout” or something?

Re: Closers

Do not want to dispute what others have said, but I have pitchers throw complete games or 8+ innings all the time. I thought it was based on the pitch count and the starter's stamina ... in addition to having given up fewer runs than what was set in your Strategy.

I usually have a Closer set, mainly because I did not want my closer coming in the 6th inning of a game I am losing and then use of their pitch count and have to rest the next game.

Re: Re: Closers

If the game is not in a SAVE situation he wont automatically enter

Re: Closers

These answers are all correct. Closer won't come into a no-hitter, but otherwise he will enter any save situation, assuming he is healthy/not tired.

Thanks for clarifying!
