What is "Dice"?
Sorry if I missed where this is noted on the site, but what is the Dice stat?
Re: What is "Dice"?
DICE is an improvement on CERA that removes the contribution of the pitcher's defense, instead estimate a pitcher's ERA from the components of his pitching record that don't involve defense. These are home runs, walks, hit batters and strikeouts.
Re: What is "Dice"?
your not alone i wanted to know this for years but its the first time it came up lol
Re: Re: What is "Dice"?
It is supposed to show you an estimate of what a pitchers ERA will be the following season based on the stats jwb stated. There is a whole formula. you can see it on wikipedia.
Re: What is "Dice"?
It is usually the stat furthest to the right on your roster page for the pitchers. Compiled stats page.
Re: Re: What is "Dice"?
Which is great because it makes it easy to ignore lol
Re: What is "Dice"?
More technically, DICE is ( 3 * BB + 13 * HR - 2 * SO ) / IP + 3.00. Same as FIP (which you can find on Fangraphs or Baseball Reference) except it doesn't change based on the league run environment.
