D+/-

D+/-

What does the D+/- stat in team ranking represent?

Re: D /-

It reflects a players Defensive Wins Over Replacement value. In real life this is a VERY subjective statistic - it assigns an overall value a player has to their team over a replacement.

In Pennant Chase it reflects an ability to turn HITS into OUTS -if you are a POSITIVE DWar - OR turn OUTS into Hits, if you are a negative DWar

Every .33 of Dwar represents approximately a 1% chance to turn a Hit into and Out. so a +1 Dwar has about a 4% chance to turn a ball hit to his position, which would normally be a HIT into an Out- A negative DWar has the opposite effect.

a +4.17 SS like 2017 Andrelton Simmons has about an 18% chance to turn a Hit into an out. This can really help your Pitchers and runs allowed in general - however it is impossible under the current conditions to determine exactly when it happens.

Re: Re: D /-

Great explanation, although he's asking about the team stat - that is the total hits taken away minus the hits allowed based on the dWAR rating.

Re: D +/-

The D +/- is the total your entire team has accrued... the "total" meaning the accumulated total of how many hits your team's defense turned into outs in the current season (or, for very rare teams, the total outs turned into hits if the D +/- is a negative value).

While Dwar is assigned individually to players, the "D +/-" measures the entire team's total. In a game, if your SS turned 3 hits into outs, and your CF turned 2 hits into outs, and your (negative Dwar) 1b turned 1 out into a hit... your "D +/-", after that game, would increase by 4 [3+2-1].

Higher Dwar at SS and CF is a good strategy for nearly any league you play in.

Re: Re: D /-

I keep meaning to type up a new PC dWAR primer for Guy to look at again. Ill try to get to him this week.

Re: D /-

I wonder how you could do that though Jay, under PC's rules DWAR only negates hits or turns outs into hits.

DWar in real life also considers the "Ground Ball between 3B and SS, Rolen, just gets a glove on it, infield hit, runners advance 1 base" - if Ricky Henderson was on 2B in that instance, He probably saved a Run, but those plays don't count in PC, and you can't throw a guy out stretching a 2B at 3B either, it's not a Hit taken away.

I would simply like to have the play by play depict when a DWar play occurs, it would help show the actual game play value in PC.
