GM/Owner

GM/Owner

Let me start of by saying I think this is a fantastic website and loads of fun.

That said, I best cross owner/GM off of my list of dream jobs. i am DAMN BAD at it, well thats not entirely accurate...I am good at tying up losing records.

Without specifics, are there any hints as to what to look for?

A new Hobby?

Re: Re: GM/Owner

It takes a while to understand how the sim works. It takes a while to understand how to succeed in the various types of drafts. It takes a while to understand who's good and who's bad in each type of league. Remember, you're likely playing against many owners who have been on PC for a while and have a lot of tribal knowledge.

Don't give up! If you want to point us to a specific team that's struggling, we can definitely offer some ideas.

Re: GM/Owner

So rude, Sin!! Lol
Just ignore him.

Re: Re: GM/Owner

I WAS only joking,

Re: GM/Owner

I looked at a few of your favorite teams, since that's what I primarily play.

Batting orders looked good for some of the teams. Pitching, on the other hand....

It's crucial to find pitchers with low WHIP and H/9. (K/9 too, but that's less important for starters.)

Pitching batting in the sim, so it's better to find fave team years with at least a few good pitchers than just relying on raw slugging power.

Re: Re: GM/Owner

It should be "pitching is greater than batting," but the dangblasted thing doesn't allow a greater-than sign.

Re: GM/Owner

You know Sin, that thought crossed my mind but I am hopelessly lazy so I cant do that.

Thanks everyone for the help/support.

Re: Re: GM/Owner

I'm a little late to this but just glanced at this team as an example https://www.pennantchase.com/lgTeam.. 1) you have to fully participate in drafts. you missed the 3rd round of this supplemental draft and missed out on some quality players in the process. same thing in this league https://www.pennantchase.com/lgTeam.. (missed a ton of good players)
2) in a deep pool of players - every little upgrade matters. Like on this team - I see 4 starting hitters that could be upgraded / platooned (raines, sandberg, meyers, mathews). For instance, instead of Raines/Ichiro (why is Ichiro starting vs lefties?) - why not play Snider versus righties and Medwick or Kevin Mitchell versus lefties? And then Buddy Myer / Tony Lazzeri split at 2nd (instead of Sandberg). And so on. None of those players are difference makers but it's the subtle little upgrades that make the difference in the long haul.
3) play in less leagues. You can't give your teams full attention when you're learning and are in 18 leagues. If you play in 8-10 you really get to know the pool of players and see who is performing and who isn't. Good luck

Re: GM/Owner

Yes, you HAVE to take part in the Supplemental and FA release otherwise you really have no shot to contend.

Re: GM/Owner

Yeah first thing I noticed is you are in too many leagues. Focus on one, maybe two, see what works, what doesn’t, what others are doing, what successful owners are doing.
