Leaving the Site

Leaving the Site

Just quit all my Private/Custom Leagues as I exit the site. Will abandon my auto-leagues as well.

Due to my unhappiness with the current situation on the site I felt the need to make a positive impact move. For me that required leaving the site, nuff said.

My apologies to all Commishes and Owners in the Leagues I abandoned but I felt forced to do the honorable thing and leave. For me the conditions here at present are not fair to anyone hence my voluntary removal from the site.

Best Wishes & Kind Regards to my friends on the site before I leave! Warrior

Re: Leaving the Site

I do admire standing by your convictions. Smooth sailing in calmer waters.

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

I would respect your decision more if you finished your commitments to league commissioners on leagues you are in than grandstanding your leaving like some self righteous martyr.
You are punishing those commissioners leaving mid season more than you are the webmaster. Those you claim to respect. Sanctimonious B.S. Great word for this.
Warrior. Do warriors quit?
Merry Christmas

If the “current situation” being referred to is a couple dupe accounts/ colluding owners, I’ve got news for you: that’s a never ending battle. You’re massively misinformed if you think I, what, just don’t care? Don’t take action? Both are false. Am I always aware? No. Do people slip through the cracks? Of course. Have I spent hours upon hours every year battling trolls, denial of service attacks, duplicate accounts, claims of cheating.... Yes.

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

It was a problem , but not the worst in the site's history, and almost laughable. The site policed itself and Guy, as always, took care of the situation. I guess if warrior wants to quit, so be it.

Re: Leaving the Site

I am with griddy here. As much as I would love to see annabeth and co. booted, I think Warrior basically just gave a big FU to all his custom league commishes and left them high and dry and gave them no regard.

Seems to me he had one foot out the door and was looking for a reason to jump.

Re: Leaving the Site

I have no idea what this is about and it is none of my business. I am not saying that warrior should have left, as I said that is none of my business.

As a commissioner of a league that warrior spent 40 seasons in (yes 40), he isn't a "grandstander". One of the quiet ones actually, that always took care of his team and never caused any drama.

Just thought I should say that.

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

Bravo, I didn't say he was a grandstander. He was grandstanding. There is a difference. I can make a judgement without passing judgement based on what I see and read.
Maybe grandstanding is an inaccurate word. He was making a big deal of calling out the webmaster and saying how offended he was about the perceived non action of said webmaster, (which isn't true) , only to disrespect everyone he was in a league with by dropping out mid season.

Re: Leaving the Site

We all get frustrated with things in life. I am sorry that you made this decision. I feel like you are only punishing yourself and depriving the people who have come to know you of your in game friendship. We are going to miss you, Warrior. I hope you re-consider at some point.

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

I was one of his league commissioners and, no matter what decision Warrior made based on his convictions, will always have all the respect in the world from me. His departure is a huge loss for my league as he had been in it from day one.

He decided that it was time to go, so be it. I wish him nothing but the best.

Re: Leaving the Site

Those are kind words and good for you. I don't think anyone has anything but well wishes for him or anyone leaving. There is a classier way to do it.
After all I've read about his time here, I expected more than just quitting and lambasting the webmaster unfairly on the way out.

Re: Leaving the Site

Disrespectful

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

He had problems with the way this site was being run... okay, what were those problems? You've got one of the most accessible webmasters you're going to find in any online sports gaming site. There are several users on this site who have communicated things they don't like, and I have not had the time to get to a lot of those issues, but my assumption is those issues would not drive them away from the site - still, if they were to leave out of the displeasure of my inaction on those issues, I would at least understand where they are coming from. I have literally no idea and no clue where this came from. If someone messages me and said, "I believe you're enabling cheaters" then great, let's talk about that, do you really think I want cheaters on this site? Again, I spend countless hours every single year combating people who try to degrade the site - cheaters, bots, trolls, etc. It's really disappointing to be slammed on the way out the door by someone who supposedly enjoyed the hard work I put in.

Re: Leaving the Site

It seems bizarre to leave the entire site because a small handful of leagues were compromised. Custom leagues carry on as always and the Auto leagues eventually get straightened out.

As someone who has taken a fair share of criticism for decisions made during the craziness of the pandemic, I understand (a little) of gbacci's frustration. We have busy lives, unprecedented hardships during COVID, and it's the holiday season. A little patience seems in order.

Re: Leaving the Site

All good points JIMGRIDDY, it just seemed a little like everyone was jumping on Warrior's character and I felt I should stand up for that.

I am not saying that I agree that he did the right thing, and I know that GBACCI does a terrific job with this site. He doesn't have to, he has a job and a family but has still seen fit to provide hours of entertainment for all of us, and I believe wholeheartedly that he takes complaints seriously and tries his best to root out cheating.

A few bad apples that get their kicks off cheating does not take away from my enjoyment of this site, and I appreciate the fact it is here...

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

BRAVO03,

You summed up my thoughts on both Guy and Warriors perfectly.

Re: Leaving the Site

Yep

Gbacci is better than any moderator I’ve ever met on any website and does this all for our enjoyment

Always calm and intelligent responses to extremely angry users- I respect the heck out of him like when he responded to my angry post yesterday with a calm DM saying he gets it and that’s the nature of the beast

I’m sure people can find a reason to leave the site if they seek it out but the last reason you should ever be able to find is Gbacci

You’re a great owner Warrior. I’m sure if you step back here you will realize the source of your frustration wasn’t and will never be Gbacci

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

warrior is a guy who has spent countless hours on the site, and it doesn't make sense as to why he would leave... This is a man who is 33rd all time in auto leagues, and has the most wins ever in customs. And while this doesn't effect most of us, (except the commishes you have bailed on) it still isn't right. you could do what Run4Fun did and just take a step back. maybe say you aren't going to be as active on the site but still run the seasons out in your customs for those commishes you claim to respect. This game takes a lot of time and effort to run, and it is really disrespectful to Gbacci, a man who works countless hours and minutes to make a fun baseball game experience for a bunch of knuckleheads like us.

Re: Leaving the Site

Weak, Warrior.

This is the equivalent of being in a multi-year relationship, having dozens of children and friends with that partner in the relationship, and then disappearing one morning with a note scrawled on a dirty napkin, "Leaving. Not happy with how things are going or how you are doing things. All the best to the dozens of children and friends!"

Anyone can leave the PC site at any time for any number of reasons. Completely legitimate. Pulling out of all leagues while leaving a post on the open board that is cryptic and with zero detail is weak.

Anyone who has been on PC for even a short time knows full well that the site is run by a very dedicated, responsive, fair-minded, and reasonable webmaster. Note that it is "webmaster" and not "puppet master." The webmaster cannot control people from trying countless ways to game the system, but the webmaster, thankfully, dedicates a lot of time and effort to keeping the rotten apples from spoiling the whole barrel.

Of course, who knows what Warrior was truly upset about since he didn't see fit to take the time to detail his grievances? Weak, weak, weak.

I was in several leagues with Warrior, and he was a good PC owner/GM, but a very weak exit strategy with zero detail employed to explain himself, plastered on the open boards, will be his lasting legacy, in my mind.

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

I guess he wants to spend more time with his family.

Re: Leaving the Site

" I guess he wants to spend more time with his family."

Maybe, maybe not, that's the point, no one is really sure why he left, Due to the current situation on the Site" is vague and really doesn't explain what his actual issue is.

I can't say I had much interaction with him, but it seems he was a long time and valued member of PC, he at the least could have provided the tipping point that caused him to leave-

People are assuming that it is the ongoing collusion which has been pretty much eradicated because due diligence by owners brought it to the forefront,

Perhaps he felt those people should have been immediately booted, fine but that's not his call, it's Guy's and if he was unhappy with that decision then voice it and use that as the reason you are leaving, but at least be clear.

I don't know him and it sounds like before this abrupt departure he was well respected, I won't deride him, but I can see how other people feel disrespected by his actions in leaving.

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

Interesting,very interesting.

I just sent a private message to gbacci detailing my reasons for leaving while asking him to remove my footprint from the site.If he answers this message in a timely fashion I believe he has an opportunity to receive my views which were already stated beforehand,I believe.

Anyway who really cares, obviously gbacci and I have never been fast friends nor I thought enemies.Frankly I believe he knows my views if not I attempted to explain my views in a message and he can respect my point of view or not?

It is not that hard to remove a user from the site and obviously a techno-wiz like gbacci should easily be able to do so.

We shall see
@gbacci please do me the courtesy of receiving my message and responding in a timely fashion. I am still only halfway out of your site and hopefully we can reach the quickest resolution possible here! If there is a quick way to close an account my apologies for not being able to figure it out.

Regards,Warrior

Re: Leaving the Site

gbacci, please scrub all of my losses from the site, too. I would like to be undefeated on this anonymous gaming site that makes it easy for each user to change his/her information at any time, thereby, essentially removing any "footprint" from the site.

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

Might as well give me warriors account if he ends up leaving.

Re: Leaving the Site

Dude has obviously snapped

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

change his profile name to voldermort lol , and while your at it get will smith and tommy lee jones on the phone.

Re: Leaving the Site

Gbacci: if you are okay with this, I am intrigued and would like to know the reasons for him leaving the site...

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

Besides your intrigue, I don’t think there’s any need for that. He wrote a lot of words and had plenty of opportunity to specify his grievances. I myself will refrain from any more comments regarding this topic.
Goodwill and peace to all.

Re: Leaving the Site

I went back and re-read Warrior's Posts, He most definitely left due to the Collusion going on by the 3 accounts in Fave Teams-

He called it out as cheating and said that only one course could be considered, which was kicking them off the site. He was adamant about that and was also upset that some people did not even consider it cheating - which it obviously is - They had a scheme to load up each others team with either Left or Right handed hitters and Pitchers - and drafted accordingly knowing that they could correct any inequities on their rosters by trading.

That is plain and simply cheating, that said, if Guy had booted them - could they not simply open new accounts? How is tracked? it would be like playing Whack-A-Mole and could screw up even more and more Leagues as they enter and then get booted.

I'm no computer whiz and there probably is a way to track their web addresses and not allow accounts from their devices - I agree they should have been booted, but it was not my call and in fairness it did not directly effect me, but I recognized the anger of other owners- some who had been in the same Leagues for years watched those Leagues get gutted due to these idiots,

In the end though, he did not just abruptly quit, he stated his intentions and basically threatened to leave if they were not booted, they were not and he left, he had a conviction and stuck to it, there are worse traits to have in life, Happy Trails

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

You are right, however , now that we have seen this we know what to look for. I am in one of those leagues with these clowns. I have a 48-24 record and am in first despite their collusion. I didnt think nothing of it when I saw the mass trade after day 6, but when i saw it called out on the boards, it was clear what was going on. this is a good community and gbacci does a great job, but he cant see everything instantly, so its kinda like hockey, we have to police the game ourselves.Of course they can change profiles , but we will recognize the scam if it ever comes up again. Happy holidays all and good health for 2021 !!! i remember as a kid thinking 2000 was years away and now i just typed that number.

Re: Leaving the Site

He left because he was able to aquire a contract with ESPN to televise competitive chess matches and just wouldn't have time for sim baseball anymore.

- The Sheik

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

First off, anna uk and barb were banned from trading with each other since a few days ago, so nobody has to dodge them, unless of course they create a new account at which point we will deal with it. I followed the process I always follow.

I sent Warrior a heartfelt private email. I don't think it will help the matter, but I tried.

As for his claim I didn't act on his desire to boot users... I had no idea he wanted the user's booted - I don't see or know everything said on the boards, you have to PM me. As I mentioned before, it has been a crazy month.

As for his request to delete his footprint - I will get to it when I can.. it's not the easiest thing in the world as he suggests.

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

Ok, breaking my word here.
" In the end though, he did not just abruptly quit, he stated his intentions and basically threatened to leave if they were not booted, they were not and he left, he had a conviction and stuck to it, there are worse traits to have in life, Happy Trail"
I agree with what you wrote before this, but not this last quote. Personal convictions are just that. Doesn't mean all are right. The conviction I saw was an angry person taking out his anger on everyone. Non of the commissioners that run good leagues deserved to have someone leave in mid season.
He basically said I have given the webmaster an ultimatum and he if doesn't respond the way I want screw all of the rest of you. I respect you all so much I am going to abruptly leave. And it was abrupt. I went back and looked at the timeline. I do not know Gbacci to be a liar. So when he says time is an issue some times in responding to something I believe him. While under no obligation to grant the demands of anyone. He has a protocol and he went through it.
I guess what bugs me is making this person out to be some kind of hero. He could have said I don't like how this is or isn't being handled and when my custom leagues seasons are complete I will be leaving. It showed no thought for anyone but himself.
He did give us something to talk about for these last several days. I am convicted, rather convinced of that.
And to apologize to commissioner's and owners to who I have abandoned but I need to do the "honorable" thing? Is it honorable to abandon a commitment you made to people who did you know wrong? Honorable. Can you behave any more like a narcissist?

Re: Leaving the Site

I swear on my life I did not see a post where he said he would quit if I did not ban users.. If I had seen that, I would have responded to it - although I might not have responded so nicely to that type of threat. :)

I try to get this message across as much as I can, but PLEASE pm me if you need to speak directly to me - since we now have flags and icons for sent messages, the inbox is a great place for me to know if I have responded to everything I need to respond to... believe me, I wish life was not so crazy right now, but those of you dealing with kids at home, those of you dealing with demanding bosses... you know. The massive thread about the Fav Teams trades was not something I was reading every word of.

My response within the thread was that I definitely thought it was colluding. I thought that would indicate to everyone that I would take care of it. As someone else mentioned, deleting accounts is not the answer. Kicking users out of leagues also isn't ideal because it causes issues within the league when a team has no owner.

PC is a massively complex site, thousands of leagues of all different kinds and now multiple sports too... and it's also not a revenue-generating business. So if you want to pay $25 per team to go play on SOM and get "better service" - by all means, you can do that.

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

someone has to say this , i dont care if it makes me unpopular but here it is, warrior is a self serving aggrandisising blowhard. im, leaving heres my rant blah blah blah blah. if you dont like this site leave , we wont miss you and will somehow manage to go on . To think that you are so important that the whole history of this site has to be rewritten pretty much says it all

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

Warrior NEVER directly said that either you ban or boot them that he would quit, he made strong suggestions that, that would be the case, but so be it, you may have decided you were not booting them at any rate, it's your site and I think you do a fine job of running it.

As to the statement that his exit WAS abrupt, I again say that if your convictions tell you that you have to do something you do it - I had a good friend on a Dart team 30 years ago that was in the Playoffs, after the 1st week of the Playoffs he told the team that because he was drinking too much he was quitting because he didn't feel he could spend 3 hours in a place that serves booze and not have a drink,

Did it stink, yes, but we had extra shooters, none as good as him but we understood his choice, he turned his life around and it ultimately WAS the right decision.

Think about that before you denigrate him or question his choice, if he felt THAT strongly about it than he did what he felt he had to do and you can't make an omelet without breaking eggs - What if he had simply died? same result, he's gone, so be happy that wasn't the case.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Re: Leaving the Site

But he didn't die. he quit. Was he drinking too much? Those are VERY different convictions. Like I said, not all convictions are rightly acted on. Those extremes you use are a straw man. They were the result of someone doing something for health reasons that affect others.
If he had a family or health reason no one would say anything but well wishes.
He didn't leave for something so dramatic so please don't make it on par with alcoholism or death. Bad comparisons.

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

see my previous comment. this is a pretend game that we all like but to think your that important that you have to make a whole story about why you left is ridiculous

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

We can stop trashing the dude, I will remove this thread soon enough.... but @SCM I think the point Jim made is that it was not a matter of conviction when you don't give the other party a chance to reply. His claim to me was that he didn't PM me because I wouldn't respond in a timely matter, and I should have responded to what was being said on the board.... you're going to have a tough slog in life if you think everything always goes your way - that's being narcissistic and not having empathy for the other person. What he was claiming is completely false. If he had sent me a PM expressing his concern, of course I would have responded. His gripes were mixed in with everyone else's gripes but somehow I am supposed to identify his needs and know he's on the verge of leaving? That's self grandising and unfair, not following your convictions. This isn't ESPN or even SOM with a staff of many ready to ease a customer's concerns. If he doesn't realize that then he just lacks some perspective.

If he had come on the boards and said something like, Gbacci follows a pattern of enabling cheating, not responding to my messages, not responding to the board fast enough.... I would have been surprised but not shocked and we could have had a communication about what I could do better.

Re: Leaving the Site

"For me the conditions here at present are not fair to anyone hence my voluntary removal from the site."

Not fair to anyone? Absurd.

A person can have convictions and carry them out. But, that's not what Warrior did. Warrior posted falsehoods about how the site is run on the open board before leaving.

Cheering his "honor" or applauding that he is "sticking to his convictions" means you have to ignore his original post, a post that Warrior has obviously reviewed and determined is not worth an edit or correction.

I liked Warrior as an owner, but that doesn't give him carte blanche to write libelous statements, which is exactly what his original post is. Not to mention that the premise that "you do XYZ or I'm leaving the site" is about as absurd as one can get on a free site that is running by the grace of one person who is incredibly responsive to every user.

PC has meant too much to my peace of mind over the years for me to have one iota of respect for any user who blathers falsehoods as he leaves the site. And, I lose respect for anyone who apologizes for him or supports his actions.

Re: Leaving the Site

I just think , that this thread has of now been going on for too long and have been polluting the board quite much...

Annawhatever, UKwildstuuf or barbecuewhoever are just not worthy of all the attention given to them right now...

The cheaters have been reported... Guy took action, as he always done in the past. He manages a website.... not a kindergarden...

At one point, when people are cheating, and they are still not able to succeed, I find it to be laughable... and probably the reason why I didn't pay too much attention to them.... as they are not worthy of all the attention they have been given....

These are quite some crazy times with the pandemic and everything that surrounds it.... pretty sure many of us had to absorb all kind of pressure in the last couple of months...

There is no need for that kind of theatrics.... let's just elevate our game here folks!

Let's bring some more positive stuff of this thread and just put this one here to bed ! Just seems like we are adding salt to a wound.

I can pile up some home works and a brand new 2021 wishlist for Guy so he can stay busy in 2021!!!!!!!!!!

I've been on this site this site for probably 8 years or so....or even more.

Nobody is bigger than this site... So if somebody want'S to leave...just leave... there is so much rough stuff going on right now.... please give me a damn break about the theatrics...

Let''s elevate Warrior's keyboard to the rafters and have a retirement ceremony instead! He can also be induce to PC hall of fame! Number 1 is all time wins in custom's is quite something !

This site is free!!!!!!! how in the hell can somebody complain about this site and everything it brings to table, when all of this for free....

it's free hours and hours of entertainment!

Only thing I can blame Guy for, is that this site is addictive and there should be a warning somewhere on the site!

Cheers to all and lets just try to enjoy a very special holiday season that this one will be...

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

I can't believe people are still saying Lebron is better than Jordan.
Lebron never played against the bad boys of Detroit or had Bill Wennington as a teammate. Jordan had that winning mentality and took everything personally. If you think Lebron is better, you made a mistake dude.

Re: Leaving the Site

Breuer_elbows, I think you posted that on the wrong thread, bud...

Re: Leaving the Site

First time on the internet I guess...

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

it would be hard to watch every league and do it as long as you have. thin put up with this

I thought maybe he was trying to change the subject. 😂

Re: Re: Leaving the Site

Yeah, that's was pretty random !! 😘

Re: Leaving the Site

"it would be hard to watch every league and do it as long as you have. thin put up with this"

put up with what? No one was putting up with anything. It was discovered, brought to light , and dealt with.
