Black Crackers Win!!

The World Series came down to a 15-inning affair that was settled when the Black Crackers responded to the Wheeling Reds with two in the bottom of the inning to offset the Reds pushing the go-ahead run across in the top of the inning. The game was tight from the very beginning as Early Wynn and Jim Wilson? locked in a pitchers duel that left the game tied 1-1 at the end of regulation. Phil Rizzuto drove in the tying run in the bottom of the 15th, and Jackie Jensen walked in the winner to give the Crackers a 3-2 win. Congratulations to both teams on a great season, and on the Black Crackers on winning a tough 7-game Seires.

Vampires See the Light

The Val Verde Vampires have been exposed to the light of day and it ain't pretty. But new ownership has infused fresh blood into the team. We will see what happens.

Adlai Stevenson Says '52 Election was Stolen

Story Photo
Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin
Like Charlie Brown, waiting for the Great Pumpkin to arise on Halloween Night, Adlai Stevenson sought the presidency of the United States with fervent purpose and dignity. Did Adlai Stevenson cry foul and go off to his Bloomington mansion pretending that the Great Pumpkin had crowned him instead of Dwight Eisenhower? No, for those were different times, and we celebrate them, and that unique Gestalt in this league. Some of the finest players to lace up their cleats took the field during the 1950's, as a new type of baseball caught hold. Jackie Robinson, Lary Doby, and the rest of the Negro League players brought with them a brash, barnstorming brand of baseball, where speed and daring delighted fans. Unique talents like Mickey Mantle and Ted Williams anchored some of the best baseball teams of the era, but Robinson's Brooklyn Dodgers, with more Black faces than any other team in either league, proved more than capable of taking the measure of the Yankees. The Milwaukee Braves, Cleveland Indians, and Chicago White Sox also proved they knew how to win it all. There is enough here to delight any fan, and play will start in a little more than a week. Details will follow in coming days about the draft, the minor leagues, and how the games will proceed, the playoffs, and the rest of it. Stay tuned.

I forgot, it sounds like game was still tied, so the DR wouldn't have been in effect anyway since it's not a "protect the lead" situation.

This is kind of a hard one... if you're in a tie game late, do you want the offensive PH to stay in if he can play the position or not? You could argue either side of it. I could understand why at SS you may want the defensive player, but it can get gray depending on how big the difference is between the players. If you have some slugging pinch hitter who can play the pos as a secondary you may want that hitter's bat in extra innings.
