I've been getting a lot of comments lately about ads bogging down the site. I've said it many times and will say it again: Ads suck. I hate them as much as you do. But the reality is the site can only exist with ads. Ads are nearly 90% of the site's revenue.

I pocket very little from this site. The money pays for the servers and the extra goes into savings for future server upgrades, which we badly need. I don't have any control over which ads get served, or how annoying or flashy they are - that's all controlled by Google.

I tried video ads earlier this year in the hopes that they would bring in more revenue with fewer impressions, but the noise they created annoyed the heck out of everyone. Until they create muted video ads, those are not a viable option.

The good news is, I'm reducing ads for donors!
I always want to reward those who donate to the site. So starting today, active donors will see one less ad per page, which should help site performance drastically.

I'll continue to seek ways to balance revenue with site enjoyment and find ways to reduce the need for ads. Thanks for understanding.
